KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 123 illegal immigrants were detained following a swoop around the city centre, says the Immigration Department director-general.
Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said those detained were 68 Bangladeshis, 36 Indonesians, seven from Myanmar and nine Nepalese, while the remaining foreigners were from Pakistan, Yemen and India.
“They have since been brought to the Immigration detention depot for investigation and further action.
“Among the offences were no personal identification documents, abuse of passes, and overstaying,” he said in a statement Wednesday (Feb 6).

“Between Jan 1 and Jan 31, we conducted 1,353 operations resulting in 5,091 illegal immigrants and 83 employers being detained,” he said.
Khairul Dzaimee reminded the public, especially employers, not to harbour illegal immigrants.
“We will take action against those who flout the law.
“Anyone with information on illegal immigrants are urged to contact the department as soon as possible,” he said.
