PUTRAJAYA: A powerful storm lashed the administrative capital yesterday evening, causing widespread damage, Bernama reported.
The 30-minute storm, which began at about 5.30pm, brought heavy winds and driving rain which damaged houses and public facilities, uprooted trees and created traffic chaos.
The worst hit areas were Precinct 9 and 11, from where the Putrajaya Fire Station received dozens of calls from alarmed residents requesting assistance.
According to station chief Che Shaari Abdullah, many trees were uprooted and some were blocking roads.
He added that personnel from the station were deployed to several areas to remove debris from main thoroughfares beginning 6.10pm.
Meanwhile, video clips and photos showing the aftermath of the storm have gone viral on social media.
