Vietnam to kill this 23 year old Nigerian for drug trafficking.
Theophilus Ugwu, a Nigerian of Igbo origin, was, on Tuesday, May 25, sentenced to death for smuggling nearly six kilos of methamphetamine from Cambodia to Vietnam
Ugwu was charged with 'illegalal trafficking of narcotic substances' by a Vietnam court
Ugwu said he came from Nigeria to Cambodia last year, February, as a footballer, but, in March, found an African who promised to help him play for a famous Cambodian club.
The man, later, convinced and hired Ugwu to deliver the drugs for him at a fee of $1,000, but Ugwu was, eventually, arrested on the way.
Despite Ugwu's defense in court that he did not know the bag contained drugs, the court sentenced him to death.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those and those convicted of the offense could face capital punishment.
